Nigeria qualified for the FIFA U17 World Cup quarter-final round, after defeating Chile 2-1 in their last Group B encounter on Monday, 17 October 2022.
It was Nigeria’s second victory at the tournament, after previously beating New Zealand 4-0.
A goal from Blessing Emmanuel in the first half and a second from Bisola Mosaku in the second stanza was enough to secure Nigeria three points. In the latter stages of the match, Chile were awarded a penalty and converted their consolation goal.
Nigeria have progressed as runners-up in Group B, alongside Germany who beat New Zealand 3-1.
Other nations that have progressed to the quarter-finals include the United States who beat Morocco 4-0 in Group A, and Brazil after defeating hosts India 5-0.
Nigeria will take on the USA on Friday, 21 October 2022 at 13h00, while Germany will face Brazil later on Friday at 16h30.
Teams that still need to qualify for the quarter-finals are Columbia who will take on Mexico and China who will battle Spain in Group C.
While, France will take on Japan and Tanzania go up against Canada in Group D.
