Mdodana Appointed Momentum gsport Awards Spokesperson

The gsport Trust has announced that former Proteas netball captain, Zanele Mdodana, has been appointed spokesperson of the 2019 Momentum gsport Awards.

Mdodana, who won the gsport Style Star award back in 2014, and served on the Awards judging panel for two years, is currently head coach of Maties Netball and is passionately engaged in nurturing the next generation of netball stars.

Founder of gsport, Kass Naidoo, said Mdodana was chosen because she is a natural leader: “I think Zanele has so much to contribute to South African sport and I hope this opportunity gives her the confidence to stand in her light and inspire others to do the same,” Naidoo says.

Mdodana’s appointment comes days after Momentum announced it’s partnership with South Africa’s longest running women’s sport Awards, which has been celebrating the success of women in sport for 13 years. There are natural synergies between the gsport Awards and Momentum’s successful #NoApologyForMySuccess campaign, which encourages women to boldly own their success.

“Thank you to Momentum for their belief and support.” – 2019 Momentum gsport Awards spokesperson, Zanele Mdodana

Speaking about her appointment, Mdodana says: “When I was a player, I always sought a platform that addressed women issues in sport. Today I am thankful for gsport because these awards ensure that women in sport are recognised, acknowledged and given the respect they deserve. Yes, we still have a way to go, but we are thankful for the doors gsport have opened.”

Mdodana has high praise for Momentum following news of their partnership with gsport.

“Thank you to Momentum for their belief and support. In such challenging times, Momentum saw a need to back women in sport. May this partnership grow from strength to strength and be the encouragement other sponsors need to come on board and elevate the profile of all women in sport.”

The 2019 Momentum gsport Awards is set to take place on 31 August at a brand new venue, the Deck @ Wanderers on Corlett Drive.

The event, in its 14th year, will see winners recognised across 18 public categories while five Ministerial Recognition Awards are presented to leading women in sport.

The Momentum gsport Awards, endorsed by the Sports Ministry since 2015, sees the return of established partners like Gauteng Sport, Vision View, Estee Lauder, Big Five Duty Free, Worldwide Sports and Red Bull.

Another exciting new Awards partnership this year is with Brand South Africa, the country’s official marketing agency, which has proudly flown the flag in a successful 2019 for women’s sport.
