Miranda Coetzee Clinches Gold at Africa Champs

South Africa’s Miranda Coetzee set the tone on Friday, 10 June at the Coté d’Or National Sports Complex in Mauritius with a sensational run in the 400m final.

Coetzee who held back over the first 250m, charged herself in the home straight to clinch the 400m title in a time of 51.82, followed by Niddy Mingilisui of Zambia in 52.36 and in third place Kenya’s Veronica Mutua in 52.76.

Speaking on her champion performance, Coetzee shared on Instagram, saying: “Write it down, pray about it, have faith and watch it manifest.

“First African Champs, first gold medal. God pulled through.”

In the women’s 4x100m relay, South Africa’s Banele Shabangu, Charlize Eitlerd, Marizaan Loots and Phindile Kubheka claimed silver in a time of 44.87 behind Nigeria who grabbed gold in 44.45 seconds and Gambia grabbing the bronze medal in 44.97.

Elsewhere, Karmen Fouche settled for a fourth place finish in the long jump event with a distance of 6.10m, with Danielle Nolte in fifth (6.09m) and Eljone Kruger finishing in seventh spot with 5.96m
