Desiree Ellis, the decorated Banyana Banyana coach and reigning CAF and gsport Coach of the Year, was honoured with the Women’s Coach of the Year award. Ellis’s dedication to uplifting the status of Banyana Banyana globally continues to earn her well-deserved recognition.
In a fitting tribute to her pioneering efforts, Fran Hilton-Smith, a veteran football administrator and recipient of the 2015 gsport Special Recognition award, received the prestigious COSAFA Lifetime Achievement award. Hilton-Smith’s work in advancing women’s football in South Africa has left a lasting mark on the sport’s landscape.
Additionally, a salute was extended to the retired Banyana Banyana captain, Janine van Wyk, whose remarkable achievements over her 17-year career, including holding the African record for appearances, have left an enduring legacy in women’s football.
