gsport’s 2021 Newsmaker of the Year, Momentum Proteas captain Dané van Niekerk, and seasoned international Lizelle Lee were honoured for their outstanding contributions to the game at the Wisden Cricket Awards on Wednesday, 20 April 2022.
Van Niekerk is the only woman cricketer to feature in the Five Wisden Cricketers of the Year winners’ category alongside Jasprit Bumrah (India), Devon Conway (New Zealand), Rohit Sharma (India) and Ollie Robinson (England).

Lee is now Wisden’s leading women’s cricketer in the world and is the first South African to hold the title.
In 2021, Lee earned 632 runs, five half-centuries, 1 century and highest score of 132* in ODI cricket.
