Following almost two weeks of laborious fitness and technical skills training, the Momentum Proteas are in the final stages of their national training camp alongside SA Emerging and High-Performance players in Tshwane.
After completing the annual physical assessments, the extended 27-player squad took part in a 4-Day match last week, a new format for most of the players in attendance, as the squad prepares for extensive tours to Ireland and England over the next two months.
Head coach, Hilton Moreeng says the camp has been a good experience for the squad: “For a format that they girls are not used to, some of them it’s the first time especially the youngsters, so how it started and how it finished it was a very competitive game.
“You could see it required a lot from the girls, especially time on their legs, we were able to make the right adjustments. We thoroughly enjoyed it and had fun.”
Wicket-keeper Sinalo Jafta says: “Red ball cricket is something that I grew up watching. Being out there now it’s mentally taxing, I’m not going to lie!
“I think the prep as a wicket-keeper in Red Ball is about temperament, I like making some jokes there with my fellow teammates just to get everyone energised and I think how we have been handling it now has been really good,” she concluded.
