Momentum Proteas’ Suné Luus, Laura Wolvaardt and Ayabonga Khaka starred in the Women’s T20 Challenge final which took place in Pune, India on Saturday, 28 May 2022.

Luus, who will lead the #MomentumProteas on their tour of Ireland, was part of the winning Supernovas team, which included England star bowler, Sophie Ecclestone, and West Indies powerhouse, Deandra Dottin.

Even though, on the losing side in the final against Luus’ team, Wolvaardt had everyone talking.

The 23-year-old, who played for Team Velocity, had a terrific IPL tournament with the bat leading up to the final where she showed her prowess.

Wolvaardt gave the Supernovas a few heart-stopping moments and the crowd something to cheer about in her fight to get her team over the finish line.

Her unbeaten 65* (40 deliveries), smashing five fours and three sixes alongside teammate Simran Bahadur 20* (10 deliveries) was not enough on the night as they brought their team, within four runs of what would have been a spectacular victory in front of an ecstatic crowd.

Wolvaard took to Instagram to show her appreciation for #TeamVelocity and the people of India, saying: “Great game of cricket last night (Saturday). Disappointing loss but really enjoyed my time with #TeamVelocity these past two weeks.

“The crowds were amazing! Thank you India.”

Right arm medium-paced bowler, Khaka, also featured for Velocity and picked up a wicket on the night. She finished with two wickets during the tournament.
