Fourth seed Kgothatso Montjane of South Africa will take on Dutch second seed Marjolein Buis of the Netherlands in Sunday’s women’s singles final at the Pensacola Open, part of the NEC Wheelchair Tennis Tour.
Montjane ended a good week for world No. 11 Yui Kamiji after the South African world No 10 edged to a 64 36 64 win over the Japanese player, who had started the week by beating world No. 1 Aniek van Koot.
Montjane’s only previous match against Kamiji had also ended in a three set victory, at the 2012 World Team Cup, and the fourth seed will now face world No. 5 Buis.
Buis claimed a one-sided first set in her all-Dutch semifinal against Sharon Walraven, but Walraven dug deep in the second set and Buis saw match points disappear at 5-3 and 6-5 in the second set before finally sealing a 60 76(1) victory.
Three of the four women’s singles semifinalists were also involved in the women’s doubles final as top seeds Kamiji and Walraven beat second seeds Montjane and Germany’s Katharina Kruger 64 60.
