Defending champion Tadu Nare won the 10km Tshwane Spar Grand Prix race ahead of her Nedbank Running Club teammates Selam Gebre and Irvette van Zyl at the Irene Agricultural Centre on Saturday, 6 August 2022.

The Ethiopian weathered the chilly morning and won the race in a time of 32:44 with her compatriot Gebre coming in with a time of 33:08 and van Zyl in third in 34:14.

The Tshwane race is the fourth in the six-race SPAR Grand Prix series and the first since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic to be run on a circular route rather than a loop.
Nare and Gebre went into the lead immediately, with the 2018 SPAR Grand Prix winner Glenrose Xaba hot on their heels. However, with five kilometres to go, Xaba dropped back and van Zyl managed to shoot past her to snatch third place.

Speaking after the race Nare said: “It was a tough race, especially because of the weather. It was very cold and I was feeling numb. And I had difficulty breathing because of the cold air. I was hoping to finish in 31 minutes, so I really pushed it over the last two kilometers.”
The next race will be held on Sunday, 2 October 2022 in Johannesburg.
