Netball Calls on the Eye Doctor

Netball SA calls on world-renowned visual sports specialist, Dr Sherylle Calder for visual training exercises based on her Visual Performance Training Science. As a part of this year’s training programme, the SPAR Proteas have joined forces with the world-renowned visual sports specialist, Dr Sherylle Calder.

During their training for the test series against Northern Ireland that took place in Cape Town last week, the Proteas visited the Stellenbosch Academy of Sport, where they had a session with Dr Calder’s Eye Gym programme.

Calder, a former South African hockey player, has worked with numerous sports teams including Rugby World Cup winning teams of England 2003 and the Springboks in 2007, as well as the South African, Pakistan and Australian cricket teams the South African women’s hockey team, various football and rugby teams around the world, and two leading South African golfers, Ernie Els and Retief Goosen.

SPAR Proteas coach Elize Kotze said that this type of training would assist the team in reaching their goals; “With the kind of training Dr Calder provides, we can move onto another level.”

“We have fantastic players, and with scientific help, I have no doubt that we can achieve our goal of challenging the top four teams in the world.”
