According to Kalmer it is a great initiative to host a running event in celebration of women. “Women are the back bone of any family, and it is great to recognize and reward women for the important role that they are playing in society.

“The Totalsports Ladies Race is a very well organized race, the support is amazing, and on the day, it’s all about the ladies. It is good for your body and mind to be fit and active. What better way to celebrate women’s month than with fellow ladies outdoors in a beautiful Durban,” says Kalmer.

“I’m very excited to be part of the 2012 Olympic Games,” continues Kalmer. “This will be my second time at the Olympics as I participated in the 1500m in 2008 in Beijing. I’m taking part in the marathon on Sunday, 05 August. It is a great honour to represent South Africa at such a prestigious event”.

The 2012 Totalsports Ladies Race Durban is organised under the auspices of and in partnership with KwaZulu Natal Athletics (KZNA). “We at KZNA are very pleased to once again partner with the Totalsports Ladies Race,” says Craig Dennill, Chairperson Road Commission KZNA.

“It is important for us that we continue to provide our athletes with quality events such as the Totalsports Ladies Race and we are delighted that they have identified Durban as a home for this race. In this the second year the event has further aligned itself with our development goals identifying fifty young ladies from schools across the province to participate covering all their costs.

“We wish everyone a successful event and may everyone achieve their personal goals”.
