Proteas Women all-rounder Nondumiso Shangase is looking forward to adding to her 14 international caps, as she has made her return after an absence of more than two years from the national fold.
The 27-year-old is currently with the Proteas in Pakistan, as they prepare for three T20 matches before the three-match ODI series, which will take place at The National Stadium in Karachi, from Friday, 1 September 2023.
Speaking on her return, a beaming and emotional Shangase, said: “I won’t lie, it’s really nice to be back after so long.
“They told me that I made the squad going to Pakistan, I was shocked… I kept quiet for a second and I was like “Thank you.” I wanted to cry but I was like, “No sisi, just be strong, don’t cry.” You see now, I’m getting emotional again.”
The off-spinner is reaping the rewards of her hard work as she has been working behind the scenes to attract the attention of the national selectors.
“I wasn’t good, you know when you get left out, it’s not nice,” revealed Shangase.
“The way I was training, I was going there with no plan. I was just hitting balls and my focus was more on bowling than batting, but when I got left out, I started to focus more on batting and bowling followed.
“I made sure I performed well for my provincial team because I knew how important that would be, so I did my best and here I am,” she concluded.
