Young stars from across North West participated in various sporting codes for provincial honours at the Winter Games in Potchefstroom, which took place from 3-4 June 2022.

68 girls played in different games including football, khokho, chess and juskei.

The U13 Girls groups in khokho saw Dr. Kenneth Kaunda District taking the first place prize, while Bojanala came in second and Dr. Ruth Segomotsi Mompati rounded off the top three.

In football, four districts displayed their talents as Dr. Kenneth Kaunda claimed first on goal difference as they shared 7 points apiece with second-placed Dr. Ruth Segomotsi Mompati. Bojanala District came in third with three points, while Ngaka Modiri Molema finished in fourth place with no points.

Elsewhere in chess, Bojanala finished in first position with 19 points, Dr. RSM came second with 19 as well, while Dr. KK took third place with 18.5 points and Ngaka Modiri Molema finished last with 15.5 points.

The U16 girls from Ngaka Modiri Molema displayed a top performance in juskei, taking the first position with 24½ points, a close call from Bojanala District taking second place with 23½ points and Dr. Ruth Segomotsi Mompati concluding the top three with 22½ points.

The selected athletes will represent the North West Province at the National School Winter Games in Stellenbosch from 3-7 July 2022.
