Fresh off a fantastic One-Day International outbound victory over Pakistan, the Proteas Women will be looking to continue their momentum when they start their 3-match ODI series against New Zealand on Sunday, 24 September 2023.
The South Africans will host the White Ferns at JB Marks Oval (Senwes Sport Park) in Potchefstroom, North West, with the match set to start at 10h00am CAT.
Looking ahead to the series start, captain Laura Wolvaardt expressed the teams excitement being back on home soil and readiness for their next challenge.
“Excited to be back! The last time we played in South Africa was the World Cup final (ICC Women’s T20), that was an amazing atmosphere and hopefully we can get a similar sort of vibes at these games.
“Obviously these ODI’s are very important for points for the qualification for the next 50-over World Cup. So, our main focus will be to win those games. And, the T20’s as well, I think the more T20’s we can play, it will be good prep for next year’s World Cup.”
Speaking on her captaincy after taking over the reigns before the team jetted off to Pakistan, Wolvaardt says, “It’s been alright so far.
“This is my first series at home, we’ll see how it goes but I think it went pretty well in Pakistan.
Proteas Women Captain, Laura Wolvaardt
I’m lucky that I have a lot of senior players around me that can still help. It’s been a lot of information to take in, with all the bowlers and bowling plan meetings, but I think I’m sort of getting a hang of it.”
