Rain wins fourth ODI

Rain played havoc with the fourth One Day International (ODI) between the West Indies and South Africa in Dominica on Sunday. The match was abandoned, leaving South Africa 2-1 up in the five-match series, with just one match remaining.

The Windies won the toss and chose to field after the start of play was delayed, resulting in the overs being reduced to 48 a side.

South Africa lost their openers, Shandré Fritz (0) and Trisha Chetty (3) in the first six overs to put the visitors on the back foot. Captain, Mignon du Preez (13) and Marizanne Kapp (17) put in valiant efforts to slow the game down and brought calm to the innings before Shakera Selaman removed the former. It was however, Cri-Zelda Britz and Dané van Niekerk who added vital runs of 36 and 25 respectively to push South Africa out of the danger zone.

The visitors ended their innings with a respectable 139 all out with Shanel Daley and Stefanie Taylor taking three wickets each.

With the clouds threatening to burst, West Indies took to the crease but only managed two overs at a score of eight for no loss before the heavens opened up again. The target was adjusted to 141 off 43 overs via Duckworth/Lewis, but the grounds men ran out of time to prepare the pitch and field before the cut off time of 15:55 (local time).

South Africa will meet their hosts in the finalé on Tuesday, 15 January. Victory will give South Africa a 3-1 series win, while West Indies will be hoping to produce their second win in as many matches to secure a two-all series draw.
