Three women, all of whom finished in the top three at the recent SA Half Marathon Championships in Cape Town, have been included in the Athletics South Africa team for the World Half Marathon Championships taking place in Kavarna, Bulgaria on 6 October.
SA Half Marathon Champion, Rene Kalmer, leads the trio which also includes her younger sister Christine Kalmer, and Nolene Conrad who finished third in the recent SPAR Pretoria 10km Challenge.
Rene Kalmer’s aim at the World Half Marathon Championships is to dip under the 70min mark and she already got closer to the target after her win at the SA Half Marathon Championships.
Kalmer competed at the Great North Run in Newcastle, England where she finished the race in 70:13. Just like Mokoka, she also competed in the marathon at the Olympic Games in London.
