Riana van Niekerk (Mr. Price Club) won the Petro South Africa Marathon in Mosselbaai 2:49:33 on Saturday 24 February 2007, in a new record time for the tough course.
She was second at the SA Marathon Championships two weeks earlier in a personal best time of 2:43:00.
Last year Riana won the Wally Hayward Marathon, the Bergville Ladysmith Ultra, the Pretoria Marathon and Loskop Marathon.
Her highlight of 2006 was winning a gold medal in the Comrades Marathon, after finishing 8th in the women’s field.
The Mosselbaai marathon is one of the richest races in the country with a 1st prize of R75 000,00, which attracted top athletes from South Africa and Africa to the race.
Riana used this race as training for the 2007 Comrades Marathon, in which she has twice previously finished in the top ten, and hopes to do well again this year.
