Athletics South Africa (ASA) has named a women’s contingent of 19 in Team South Africa to compete at the African Athletics Senior T&F Championships in Accra, Ghana, from Tuesday, 12 May to Sunday, 17 May 2026.

From the gsport Newsroom Archives, March 2025

The team includes seven athletes who have previously earned medals at the continental championship, among them 800m runner Prudence Sekgodiso, hurdlers Rogail Joseph and Marione Fourie, long jumper Danielle Nolte, triple jumper Zinzi Xulu, javelin thrower Jana van Schalkwyk, and versatile thrower Colette Uys.

“We have once again selected athletes that we believe will defend our crown and maintain the dignity of the nation. There’s a good balance between experience and fresh glory seekers, but all hungry for the podium,” said John Mathane, the Acting President of Athletics SA

“We are always happy to compete at this stage because it’s a contest amongst sister countries, where we face the best-of-the-best,” said Mathane. “It’s also a good stage to strengthen the character of an athlete.”
