Olympic semifinalist Rogail Joseph produced a dominant performance to win the women’s 400m hurdles title on Day 2 of the ASA Senior Track and Field Championships at Coetzenburg Stadium in Stellenbosch, the Western Cape, on Friday, 17 April 2026.
“I ran a really big personal best today, so it was nice to get that, but also nice to know I was pretty close to the national record.”

Joseph’s commanding victory in 55.94 for Athletics Central North West showcased her class at the national championships. Hannah van Niekerk of Athletics Gauteng North claimed silver in 56.64, with Tumi Ramokgopa, also of Athletics Gauteng North, securing bronze in 57.49.
In the field events, the women delivered consistently strong performances across multiple disciplines. Leandri Holtzhausen proved her enduring class in the women’s hammer throw, claiming gold with a commanding 67.70 metre heave. The former South African record holder’s Athletics Gauteng North teammate Colette Uys earned silver with 63.53 metres, while Anje Holtzhausen of Athletics Central North West secured bronze in 50.93 metres.
Colette Uys struck gold in the women’s discus with a throw of 57.86 metres, establishing a commanding lead over her competitors. Tyla Wasmuth of Athletics Free State earned silver with 52.44 metres, while Ischke Senekal of Eastern Province Athletics secured bronze in 51.83 metres.
Zinzi Xulu took the women’s triple jump with a best attempt of 12.90 metres for Athletics Gauteng North, demonstrating her consistency in the multi-event disciplines.

Carina Swiegers proved her class in the women’s 3000m steeplechase, powering to gold in a dominant display with a time of 10:28.69. The Athletics Gauteng North athlete maintained her form throughout the final, with former South African record holder Kirsti Bell of Athletics Free State earning silver in 10:33.83, while Selmarie Erasmus of Western Province Athletics secured bronze in 10:43.49.
Enya Pooler claimed the crown as South Africa’s most versatile athlete, winning the two-day heptathlon competition, showcasing her remarkable range across all seven disciplines.
The women’s relay teams provided an exciting conclusion to Day 2, with Athletics Gauteng North dominating both the 4×100 metres and 4×400 metres relay finals. Gauteng North’s A team triumphed in the 4×100 metres relay with a time of 44.12 seconds, while the same province claimed gold in the 4×400 metres relay in 3:20.32.
