SA Four Tee Off in Ireland

The Ladies European Tour last visited Northern Ireland in 2003, but four South Africans are in the run for the Northern Ireland Ladies Open at the Hilton Templepatrick Golf Club, starting on Friday.

Morgana Robbertze is the first to tee off in the first threesome, from the first tee, and she’ll have the company of local amateur Danielle McVeigh.

Next up is Laurette Maritz, the elder stateswoman on foreign duty, and she’ll be hoping to forget the past two tournaments, where she failed to make the half-way mark cut.

Maritz faired very well the tournament before the past two disasters, and she’ll know that it’s just a matter of concentration, to regain her familiar form.

Ashleigh Simon returns to the professional tour after a break, where she joined the South African Deputy President Phumzile Mlambo Ngcuka and Women’s World Cup of Golf’s Tanya Fourie and Lesley Copeman for tea party at the Oliver Tambo House, Pretoria.

Simon will also want to get back on the course, after an under-par performance in her first professional tournament, at the Deutsche Bank Ladies Swiss Open, in Switzerland, where she also failed to make the cut.

Lee-Anne Pace is the final South African entered to play, and she tees off from the first hole just after noon, and she will want to continue good form established in the BMW Ladies Italian Open, and the Spanish Ladies Open, where she earned a share of 46th place.

This week’s field is headlined by last week’s BMW Ladies Italian Open Champion Trish Johnson, as well as double-winner Nikki Garrett and three-time tournament champion Gwladys Nocera.
