South Africa rises to the top of the 2006 World Amateur Team Championship at the half-way mark, after our best two performers posted good scores at the Stellenbosch Golf Course today.
SA (-11) now sits comfortably at the top with a 3 stroke lead over Germany, which leads Japan by one and France by two, with England and Sweden (-4), Korea, Chinese Taipei and Australia (-2) and Colombia (E) make up the top 10 nations after two days.
While Japan’s Rikako Morita clung to her personal no. 1 leader board position after an even-par round at the De Zalze Golf Course today, best-performing South African players Ashleigh Simon and Kelli Shean each put in 3-under par rounds of 69 to climb to second and third places respectively.
The best rounds of the day were care of Germany’s Katharina Schallenberg, Austria’s Stehanie Endstrasser, and France’s Melodie Bourdy and Anna-Lise Caudal, who all carded a 4-under par 68 on day two of the international amateurs’ championship.
With the world talent on display, South African’s Simon and Shean are making their familiarity with home conditions count, but team-member Stacy Bregman continues to struggle, posting rounds of 73 and 75 for a 3+ tournament total of 148.
