SA Rower Courtney Westley Wins Silver at FISU Games

Team South Africa’s Courtney Westley secured silver in the Women’s W1X rowing while Chloe Cresswell and Naidia Gaspari secured bronze in the Women’s LW2X rowing as well as the 4x100m relay team at the FISU Games on Sunday, 06 August in China.

Westley got off to an incredible start in the W1X Women’s Rowing, winning her heat in 8:00.47. She went on to qualify for the semi-finals, and in the final she rowed her way to for a silver medal with a time of 7:42.05.

In the Lightweight Women’s Double Scull duo Chloe Cresswell and Naidia Gaspari showed immense determination earning bronze.

In the Women’s 4x100m relay it was Elsabe van der Merwe, Banele Shabangu, Joviale Mbisha and Tamzin Thomas who showed class as the ladies in green and gold finish in third-place with a time of 44.36 to add another bronze to Team South Africa’s medal tally.

In the Women’s 4x400m relay the team fell short of winning a medal as they finished the race in fourth place.
