Speaking to gsport on Saturday, senior national netball coach Burta de Kock was disappointed in the result of the first of three tests against the talented touring Malawi side, but was happy to point to the positives.
“The players; fantastic moves, we lost three times against them (Malawi),” said De Kock, “Now the draw. Nothing to be proud of, but I’m proud of the players!”
De Kock was particularly satisfied with the degree to which her team stuck to the game plan, but acknowledged that greater emphasis was required on the attack front.
“We must just go back, and work on the things we know we can improve on, we need much more (success) in the attacking phase. Some of the players hesitate to put the ball in, and if one hesitates, the whole court must reposition, so that is a big one.”
De Kock hasn’t left out the possibility of changes to the team for Cape Town this evening, and will hope to beat their Malawian arch-rivals in the second of the three tests to take an unassailable lead in the series.
