S’annara Grove and Lucy Young both rose from 2024 bronze medalists to 2025 champions, at the annual South African Road and Time Trial Championships, held in Midvaal Local Municipality in Gauteng from 6 to 9 February, 2025.
Racing to the finish at a steady 37km/h over the 138km distance comprising five laps through the Suikerbosrand Nature Reserve and the iconic John Bosco loops, Grove was the first to start the second lap, and continued her growing presence in the leading peloton to become the new SA Road Race champion in a time of 3:43:20.34.
2021 champion and 2022 and 2024 runner-up finisher Hayley Preen raced to a 2025 second place finish, coming in just behind Grove in a time of 3:43:20.95 with Western Cape’s Tiffany Keep hard on her heels, crossing the line in a group a shade faster than fourth-placed Taneal Otto and the hard-charging Lize-Ann Louw in fifth place.

Lucy Young was in fine form to top the timesheets in the individual Time Trial on Thursday, clocking in fastest with a time of 44.52.62 ahead of Hayley Preen and Zandri Rossouw, in second and third places, respectively.
The rider from Gauteng is living up to her name as one of the top cyclists in the sport with this week’s performance, her winning pace of 44.1km/h over the 41km out-and-back route just on 2 minutes faster than that set by 2024 time trial champ, Preen.
2023 SA Time Trial champ Zandri Rossouw, who crossed the finish line in a time of 47:19.45 for the bronze medal, finished best by fractions of seconds ahead of the chasing bunch of Lize-Ann Louw in fourth, and 2025 road race champion, S’annara Grove.
