The South African Wheelchair Women’s Basketball team maintained their impressive winning streak at the Africa Para Games held in Accra, Ghana on Thursday, 7 September 2023.
They secured a commanding 38-20 victory over Morocco, showcasing their determination and skill.
South Africa took the lead in a match characterised by low scores, holding a six-point advantage (18-12) at halftime. This was a pivotal moment in the game, as they continued to outscore Morocco 6-4 during the third period, entering the final 10 minutes with a commanding 26-16 lead.
In the opening moments of the final quarter, Team South Africa broke the scoring drought after 1 minute and 40 seconds, expanding their lead to 28-16. Seizing an opportunity when Morocco missed a crucial shot, they capitalised and pushed the score to 30-16. As the final minutes ticked away, South Africa further solidified their dominance, widening the gap to an insurmountable 34-16, firmly establishing their lead on the scoreboard.
South Africa aimed for their third consecutive victory to maintain their undefeated status, whereas Morocco had faced initial setbacks with two losses before rebounding with a 23-12 triumph against Ghana.
Considering South Africa’s previous 51-31 win over the host team, this performance hinted at South Africa having a favourable form-line advantage heading into this match.
This Friday, South Africa’s women’s team faces Kenya with the goal of preserving their flawless 100% win record from four games, having secured victories against Zambia, Ghana, and Morocco.
