Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies and Botswana National Team goalkeeper, Sedilame ‘Tsontso’ Boseja, bagged the Sportswoman of the Year award at the first Botswana Women’s Awards on Friday, 25 March 2022.

The goalkeeper took her Instagram on Saturday to share the good news with her followers, saying: “I am honoured. Thank you everyone for the love and support.”

Boseja started her football career as a striker, but somehow found herself as a goalkeeper.

Before joining Masandawana in 2021, the 24-year-old played for Double Action and Bloemfontein Celtic Ladies, where she served for many years.

During her time at Celtics, she won the Free State Region Women football League Championship.

Boseja’s hard work is evident and has been finally recognised by her home country as she continues to rise in her football career.

Speaking on the awards ceremony, which was cancelled in 2021 due to Covid-19, Public Relations Officer, Onalethata Garethata, said: “We were supposed to hold this event in 2021 but due to quite a rising number of Covid-19 cases we had to withdraw the idea.

“These awards stand out as it is the first time in Botswana where women are being recognised in such initiatives,” Garethata concluded.
