Competing in her first collegiate season as a freshman at the University of Oregon, Miné de Klerk broke her own national discus record at Aztec Invitational Meeting in San Diego, California on Saturday, 26 March 2022.

It was a bright start to de Klerk’s 2022 campaign as she produced a 54.22m* heave to win the discus throw competition.

The 18-year-old added nearly a metre to her own national junior mark of 53.50m, which she had set when she bagged the silver medal at last year’s World Athletics U20 Championships in Nairobi.

The world junior shot-put champion showed her versatility once again as she went on to win the shot-put contest at the Invitational with a 17.04m effort.
