South Africa Indoor Women’s Hockey team added points on the scoreboard, following a 1-0 victory over Australia in the FIH Indoor Women’s Hockey World Cup on Wednesday, 8 February 2023.
The first quarter was rather tame, with both teams playing an evenly balanced game, with neither managing to find the back of the net.
South Africa tried to pick up the pace in the 2nd quarter, winning a short corner in the 14th minute but failed to capitalize on the opportunity. The teams went into the half time break square with no goals on the scoreboard.
Both nations started the second half with revitalized energy. South Africa won their second corner of the match but again failed to find the back of the net.
Australia later won a short corner of their own but also failed to take the lead.
Tegan Fourie opened the scoring through a penalty goal in the 30th minute of the game. The host nation held on to their 1-0 lead to claim their first victory of the FIH Indoor Hockey World Cup.
South Africa will play New Zealand at the Heartfelt Arena in Pretoria, on Thursday, 9 February 2023.
