South Africa was looking to book their place in the Indoor Hockey World Cup semi-finals, when they faced Belgium in the quarter final at the Heartfelt Arena, on Friday, 10 February 2023.
The home team got off to a flying start, with Captain Jessica O’Connor scoring the opening goal in the 2nd minute of the game, from a short corner.
With momentum on their side, South Africa created a few more chances throughout the second quarter with Tegan Fourie eventually finding the back of the net, doubling the hosts lead at half time.
Following the half time break, both sides played an evenly balanced game, with neither side adding points to the scoreboard.
Belgium picked up the pace in the final quarter final, with France De Mot pulling a goal back. However, South Africa held on for a 2-1 victory, securing a spot in the semi-final.
The semi-final match will be played on Saturday, 11 February at the Heartfelt Arena in Pretoria.
