South Africa were looking to end the FIH Indoor Hockey World Cup on the podium when they took on the Czech Republic in their 3rd/4th place playoff match at Heartfelt Arena on Saturday, 11 February 2023.
The hosts started the quarter with some high intensity, creating a few chances to find the back of the net. However, it was the Czech Republic who opened the scoring through Adela Lehovcova, in the 10th minute of the game.
Filled with confidence from the opening goal, the visitors were awarded a penalty but they could not add onto the scoresheet. South Africa continued to push for the equalizing goal, eventually winning a short corner that went narrowly wide.
Following the half time break, the Czech Republic added two more goals through Adela Lehovcova and Anna Kolarova. In the 25th minute of the game, Tegan Fourie managed to pull a goal back for the hosts.
In the final quarter neither side were able to add onto the scoreboard, with South Africa having to settle for a 4th place finish at the 2023 FIH Indoor Hockey World Cup.
