The gsport4girls logoSouth African off-road cycle champ Yolande Speedy marked a new high point in endurance and tenacity in Stellenbosch on Sunday, when she won the 2013 Absa Cape Epic with Energas team-mate Catherine Williamson, finishing the eighth and final stage with a broken clavicle and ribs she suffered after a severe crash on the penultimate stage.

U16 talent Kirsten Flanagan played a key part among a powerful women’s contingent to help the star-studded Fish Hoek Surf Lifesaving Club defend their SA champs title, at Addington Beach in Durban on Sunday.

Lead by the inspirational Natasha Hofmeester, the SA women’s squad placed second behind France in their group stage at the Hong Kong Sevens on the weekend, before going on to overrun Japan and Kazakhstan in style to lift the Plate trophy.

After an early goal by junior star Taryn Glasby for the Jewel Africa All Stars in their Princess Pro Series final against a spirited challenge from the Eurolux Fireflies, they had to take the match to a showdown before winning the match 3-1 to defend their title for a remarkable fourth win in four series.
