The Department of Sport, Arts and Culture announced a R7,5 million incentive to the Momentum Proteas ICC Women’s T20 World Cup runners-up team, as well as R15 million to Cricket South Africa over the next three years towards a professional league.

The announcement was made at a special gathering in Melrose in Johannesburg on Tuesday, 28 March 2023, where the Proteas Women were honoured for their outstanding efforts throughout the T20 World Cup, which was hosted on home soil.

Ground work is evidently being made to amplify women’s cricket in the country, with financial investment to ensure that the sport will be well developed from grassroots to national level.

At the event, the current Momentum Proteas team were also handed medals from the department.
