“We’re catering for about 1 300 kids tomorrow,” said Niels Momberg, Cricket SA’s Manager for School Cricket. “More boys, but there will be girls involved as well!"
Schools that have registered teams with the Gauteng Cricket Board will converge on St Davids for the 8:30am registration on Saturday morning for the Gauteng Baker’s Mini Cricket festival.
The Bakers Mini Cricket project aims to give all South African children a "sporting chance", by introducing the game of cricket to girls and boys of all races and cultures, and from all walks of life.
To date there are over 5000 schools, and up to 10 000 girls, participating in the programme at any one time, and the stars that field for South Africa are always keen to promote this worthy cause.
“The event is prepared by the Gauteng Cricket Board," added Momberg, "I had a meeting with the organisers this week, and it’s going fantastically well.”
