Wheelchair Tennis South Africa has named a strong women’s team to represent the country in the prestigious 2015 BNP Paribas World Team Cup, the International Tennis Federation (ITF)’s flagship wheelchair tennis team event to be staged at Club Ali Bey Manavgat, Antalya, Turkey from 25-31 May.
South Africa qualified for the event after a triumphant display at the BNP Paribas African Qualifying event in Kenya, early this year.
Twelve national teams will tussle for glory in the women’s world group, with a combined total of more than 100 teams taking part in this year’s competition.
The SA Women’s World Group team will include world no. 10 women’s player, Kgothatso Montjane, with top local stars Mariska Venter and Thando Hlatshwayo, with Montjane to take part in the Israel Open, the ITF 2 series event at Ramat Hasharon, Israel from 18 – 22 May, before heading to Turkey.
Wheelchair Tennis South Africa General Manager, Karen Losch said the players are well prepared for Turkey.
“We have selected our strongest team again this year, and we are confident that they will do the country proud.
“With the continued support from the Airports Company South Africa, players have been given an opportunity to participate in the Israel Open, which serves as a preparatory tournament ahead of the World Team Cup,” said Losch.
