by | May 16, 2022

Momentum Proteas stand-in skipper Suné Luus scored the winning runs as Tornadoes claimed the inaugural FairBreak Invitational title in Dubai on Sunday, 15 May 2022.

There were joyous celebrations within the Tornadoes camp as Luus’ winning blow in the final over secured an 8-wicket victory over the Falcons.

Coming to the chase, Sophie Devine and Sterre Kalis put up a fine opening stand of 76 as the team chased down the 152-run total.

Devine was severe on the spinners and hit some big sixes. While her departure after 9.2 overs slowed things down, Stephanie Taylor stepped in alongside Kalis to steer the ship.

Even though Kalis fell at the hands of Marizanne Kapp, the Tornadoes were never behind the rate and Luus’ 18* run contribution brought the final to conclusion.

Once again Kapp proved her big match temperament with the bat as she bounced back from an illness over the past few days to top score with 67* for the Falcons and was awarded the Player of the Match.

The all-rounder previously claimed Player of the Match awards at the 2021 editions of The Hundred and Women’s Big Bash League finals.
