Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone was named the World Athletics Woman Athlete of the Year, on Monday 5 December 2022.
McLaughlin-Levrone, who was the winner of the Rising Stars award four years ago, broke world records in her respective disciplines on more than one occasion this year.
The 23-year-old broke the world 400m hurdles record on two occasions, setting a time of 50.68 at the World Championships. She walked away with two gold medals at the World Athletics Championships in Oregon.
“All of my goals were accomplished this year,” revealed McLaughlin-Levrone.
“We were able to accomplish everything we set out to do. It couldn’t have been any better, and I was so grateful that I was able to produce that performance in front of a home crowd,” she added.
