ASP Opens SA Branch Office

The international governing body for professional surfing, the Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP), has opened a branch office in South Africa to enhance the levels of service to its members, events and sponsors.

A light drizzle that cleared later did nothing to dampen the enthusiasm of the competitors and spectators at the festival of female surfing action in Durban on Sunday as Sarah Maritz took the premier Open women’s title in the first of four Billabong “Girls Get Out There’ Summer Surf Series events.

Despite strong south east winds, freezing water and a shark scare on Day one of the event, Long Beach Kommetjie produced the goods for both days of the Roxy Surf Jam over the weekend of September 3 and 4.

Despite the howling south-easter, the waves at Long Beach stayed good and contestable for the final day of the Roxy Surf Jam, and all the girls were ripping in their heats.
