South African double Olympic medalist, Tatjana Schoenmaker, was awarded the Forbes Woman Africa Sport Award on Tuesday, 8 March 2022.

The 24-year-old swimmer received the sporting award following her outstanding performances at the Tokyo Olympic Games.

Schoenmaker became the first woman to swim the 200m breaststroke in less than 2:19:00 when she won a gold medal in a new world record at the Tokyo Olympic Games. She later claimed a silver medal in the 100m breaststroke.

Schoenmaker and Rooskrantz Headline Top Performances in Tokyo

The virtual awards, which coincided with International Women’s Day, brought together female leaders in business, government, media, technology, entertainment, and sport to promote inclusion, gender diversity and bridge the inequality gap
