Cricket South Africa and Cricket Ireland confirm an action-packed white-ball tour between the Momentum Proteas and Ireland Women, featuring three T20 Internationals (T20I) as well as three One-Day Internationals (ODI) between 03-17 June in Dublin.
The three One-Dayers will form part of the ICC Women’s Championship 2022-2025, an important qualifying cycle ahead of the 2025 ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup. The tour will get underway with an electric T20I series from 03-08 June in Pembroke in the city of Dublin, a trio of matches that will come after almost six years since the two sides last faced off in the shortest format of the game, which saw a two-match series end level in August 2016.
The teams will then turn their attention to the 50-over game between 11-17 June, where all three contests will take place in Clontarf, Dublin as South Africa set their sights on another automatic qualification spot for the global showpiece in three years.
Proteas Women, who are ranked second in ICC ODI rankings, enjoy a fantastic record over Ireland (ranked 9th) in One-Day cricket, winning 15 of their previous 17 clashes, with the Irish claiming one victory with a single no result.
Meanwhile in the T20 game, the fifth-ranked South Africans overcame Ireland Women (ranked 12th) nine times out of 10. CSA Acting-Chief Executive, Pholetsi Moseki welcomes the inclusion of the Ireland tour to what’s already an intriguing calendar for the women’s national cricket team.
“This is more fantastic news for the Momentum Proteas as we confirm another extensive international tour for the national side against Ireland,” he commented.
“The tour, which includes crucial ICC Women’s Championship points, will be hugely important as the team kickstarts their journey towards the 2025 ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup. While not forgetting the exciting T20 matches, which will mark the start of our side’s preparations for the Commonwealth Games in England later this year.
“Following the completion of the ongoing World Cup in New Zealand, coach Hilton Moreeng’s squad will be heading into another thrilling period of cricket away from home, which can only be great for the development of our players and the mounting interest in the team,” he added.
The six-match Ireland tour will precede a fascinating multi-format trip to England for the Momentum Proteas, where they will face off against the hosts in a once-off Test match, three ODIs and three T20Is between 27 June-25 July.
