Team South Africa’s U17 football team began their Region V Games on a high, after defeating hosts Malawi 4-1 at Bingu National Stadium on Thursday, 01 December 2022.
Andrille Mibe scored the first goal of the game 15th minute and in the 38th minute, she went on to double her efforts to ensure that the team take a 2-0 lead.
A strike from Nobahle Mdelwa in the 41st minute saw the girls from SA lead the game 3-0 before the halftime break.
In the 66th minute of play, hosts Malawi fought back and scored their only goal of the game courtesy of a netter from Mary Mbalangwe.
However, substitute Khutso Mogano sealed the deal for Team SA in the 85th minute, scoring the 4th goal for the team.
South Africa’s defender Portia Masilela was named Player of the Match.

“I am very happy and the girls are too. Mostly, I’m pleased how the girls absorbed the instructions they were given and how they passed them on within the group and motivated on another,” said Coach Victoria Mbatha.
“This win means we can look forward to the next game with confidence. Now the girls need a bit of recovery and we will have a light training session on Friday. We will work on few concentration errors that I saw creep into their game, especially in the second half,” concluded Mbatha.
