Tennis fever has hit the Mother City as over 400 tennis players from across the country arrive in Cape Town to participate in the Slazenger Western Province Classic, which takes place from 19 – 23 December.
The annual tournament is the province’s premier junior event, and its Super 7-status makes it one of the most prestigious junior tennis events in the country, and advantage which has gathered entry of the strongest line-ups of players for the 2007 event.
Boys and girls in the under 12, 14, 16 and 18 age categories will compete in the gold and platinum draws at different tennis clubs throughout Cape Town, as well as at Western Province’s Tennis Association’s headquarters in Rondebosch.
John Passmore, spokesperson for the Western Province Tennis, says the association is ready to deliver a great event. "We are excited at hosting another edition of the Slazenger Classic WP Super 7. The tournament has proved to be a success in the past and together with our sponsors, Slazenger, we are looking to make this our flagship tournament of the year.

As one of the world’s leading brands, we continue to commit ourselves to the development of tennis in our country especially at grassroots level", he said.
The girls under 12 platinum matches will take place at Edgemead. The under 14 platinum and gold matches will be played in Evertsdal and Kuilsriver respectively. The girl’s under 16 platinum draw takes place at Kenridge, while the boys and girls matches in the Under 18 age category will be played at the Rondebosch Stadium.
