Talkshow queen and gsport Woman of the Year nominee, Thabiso Sikwane,  is winding up her preparations, as she prepares to run the grueling Comrades Marathon on June 17.

Thabiso, along with 5fm’s Koula and Kwaito star Kabelo, are taking part in the Reebok Triple Challenge, and all proceeds will go to charity.

The bubbly SAfm presenter, who has been hard at work training for the ultra-marathon, told gsport: “Since the past weekend I have literally had moments where, for a few seconds, I felt as if I couldn’t breathe at the thought of the day!

“From last night, I have told myself to relax and to look forward to the day. I worked hard for it, and I KNOW I can do it, so I am slowly getting into relax mode.

“I am confident about the programme that Nick Bester (our coach) gave me, because it was a running kamp staaldraad! I think he worked us hard enough to make sure that, even if we perform at a minimum, it will get us through the distance.

So, what is her Comrades goal? “I’d love to get in within 11 hours, but I’ll be happy just to finish before the gun goes off, if anything does go wrong or I don’t have the ideal run.

Most importantly, Thabiso’s efforts will benefit charity, something that is really close to her heart. “The primary school in my hometown of Garankuwa (in the North West Province) called Ikageng doesn’t have a staff room, library or playground.

“I’d like to raise money to help them build and get equipment and facilities that will help in getting the children physically active. The plan is to get them playground equipment (swings, slides etc) and even lay down a netball and soccer field for starters.

If you would like to contribute to this worthy cause, send Thabiso’s name to the sms number, 38338, which will cost you R10.

Corporates and those who want to pledge big amounts or any other form of support, can do so by emailing [email protected].

Once you have sent your details and pledge, someone will contact you to take the process forward. Come on, help make a difference to the lives of our country’s youth!
