The Durban SPAR Mercury Women’s Challenge with Bokomo on June 24 offers moms and daughters an ideal opportunity to spend quality time together, away from the male members of the family, and to get some fresh air and exercise at the same time.
Starting from the Kingsmead Cricket Stadium, the Challenge will also offer a 5km Fun Run in addition to the main race for the first time, which is the 10km Challenge.
The Fun Run is open to females over the age of nine, so mothers can take their daughters along, to enjoy the fun of taking part in South Africa’s biggest road running event.
Walkers are welcome to take part in both races, so mothers need have no fear that their younger daughters would not be able to cope with running so far – or that they might not be able to keep up with their daughters!
The thousands of women who enter in the SPAR Challenges around the country all enjoy the Challenge, because of the social nature of the event.
Women from all walks of life take part and strike up friendships along the way, and what could be better than spending some time with your daughter, building your relationship and strengthening your friendship with her, away from your normal household chores and distractions?
Participants in the Fun Run also receive free T-shirts and goodie bags, and are also eligible for the coveted prize of vouchers for a year’s supply of groceries worth R12 000.
So why don’t you and your daughter start training now for the SPAR Challenge – the time you spend preparing together for the event will be equally enjoyable!
A weekly training schedule for the race is published in the Mercury every Monday until race day.
Entry forms are available from all SPAR, KWIKSPAR and SUPERSPAR Stores or online at the SPAR website, from Independent Newspapers and at KZNA offices.
