The Women’s Premier Division Rugby league is set to kick off this weekend in the Eastern Cape, Gauteng Province, and Western Province.

The 2023 competition will feature a double round of fixtures, which will result in three matches per weekend, and each team playing all the other sides on a home and away basis, with one team having a weekly bye.

In other exciting news, SA Rugby also mentioned that South Africans will be able to livestream two of each weekend’s matches on the SuperSport Schools App, while selected matches, including the final, will be available on the SuperSport rugby channels.

The Eastern Cape side Border Ladies will look to defend their title again this year, and start that campaign by taking on the Bulls Daisies, who became the first team to be handed 35 professional contracts.

Border has also lost four of its players to the Pretoria side, Unam Tose, Lusanda Dumke, Yonela Ngxingolo, and Asithandile Ntoyanto.

Also coming in as a surprise is Zenay Jordaan, who will join the EP Queens in a new role as assistant-coach, following her retirement after last year’s Rugby World Cup. Head coach Lex de Vos welcomed Jordaan into the squad as his new backline coach.

SA Rugby also cautioned that at least 28 Springbok Women players will not be available for selection between 14-28 May.

The national squad is currently in camp and will travel to Madagascar for the Rugby Africa Women’s Cup.
