Top Seeds Thru to Quarter Finals

Lizaan du Plessis beat Amy Anstey 6-0 6-1 at the SAA National Tennis Championships yesterday. Picture: Reg Caldecott The women’s draw of the SAA National Tennis Championships being played at the Wanderers Tennis Club lost all but its top two seeds, Lizaan du Plessis and Kim Rudman, on Wednesday.

Third seed Dennett Rachelle fell to Lara van Rooyen in straight sets, and Chane Hines put out fourth-seeded Debbie van Aswegen in similar fashion.

Bronwyn Davidson also overcame sixth-seeded Annelie van der Heever, while Megan Sporndli ousted seventh-seeded Lisa Wade.

Despite her victory Hines felt she did not play very well. “I am very happy that I managed to pull a win against Debbie. She is a very good player but I have beaten her before, which is why I was not afraid going into the match.

“I am feeling very much confident going into the next round of the tournament.” Her next opponent will be Davidson, who just missed out on a seeding.
