Uganda women’s football team, Crested Cranes, win their maiden CECAFA Women’s Championship title, defeating Burundi 3-1 in the final at the Fufa Technical Centre in Njeru, Uganda on Saturday, 11 June 2022.

Burundi progressed to the final after they outclassed defending champions, Tanzania 2-1 to book a spot in the final against Uganda who had defeated Ethiopia 1-0 in the other semi-final match.

Uganda dominated the first half and took an early lead through Sandra Nabweteme (3rd minute) before Fazita Ikwaput’s 44th-minute fine strike put them 2-0 up and seemingly in control.

Joelle Bukuru then pulled one back for Burundi just after the half-time break, but  Cranes regained their two-goal advantage with three minutes remaining as Nabweteme controlled brilliantly and slotted home to score her second goal of the game.

Ethiopia claimed the bronze medal after they outclassed Tanzania 2-1 in the third-place playoff game.
