On the 31st of December when I received an email with a letter stating that I had been offered the opportunity to work for gsport as a Student Vacation Reporter I knew that 2020 was going to start off on an amazing note for me.

Playing a role in celebrating our South African female athletes’ success has been such a fulfilling experience and makes me feel that I’ve taken another step towards fulfilling my purpose through my passion for sports.

I will never take for granted the opportunity that I was given to join the gsport team and share the stories of South Africa’s women in sports. This platform has allowed me to set high expectations of myself and has shown me that I am capable of more than I thought. This was also a confidence booster and motivation to keep on pursuing my dreams in the Sports Industry.

The work that we were assigned to do was very exciting and I consistently wanted to ensure that I was driven by this excitement to push myself to work harder after each and every submission.

I started tackling more than one story at a time and was so amazed at how I approached each story with the same confidence. I constantly worked on articles from different angles before I finally decided on which angle to take, although this might have been challenging, it was also an opportunity to be creative and explore the many possibilities of making my article come to life.

Every time that I thought I couldn’t deal with the pressure I showed myself just how capable I am to do so. With every topic that we were given to cover I saw it as an opportunity to actively communicate information to people.

Throughout this journey I’ve learnt that sometimes I have to remind myself that I’m doing my best and that there’s nothing holding me back from making new visions and dreams come true. I had to learn how to handle researching about more than one story at a time because I really wanted to challenge myself as a sports writer and essentially I learned how important it is to grow the support behind women’s sports and to get more people involved in ensuring that female athletes are celebrated and acknowledged for their amazing achievements.

It’s been great creating conversation on topics related to women’s sports as our female athletes have been so inspiring to watch as they continually grow and rise.

I’m extremely grateful to gsport for seeing the potential in me and magnifying my passion for women’s sports. My friends and family have also been very supportive throughout this journey and always shared and read the stories that were published on the gsport website and other social media platforms. I hope to see many more people joining the women in sport support community so that we can continue to champion women sports.

My hopes for the future include continuing to pursue my dream of being a Sports Broadcaster and improving my sports writing skills by posting in the gsport blog post section to expand the conversation around women sports while simultaneously creating a long-lasting relationship with gsport.
