Vaal University of Technology (VUT) Women’s Volleyball team were crowned champions of the Volleyball South Africa Champions Cup, at the UKZN, Westville Campus in Durban, on Saturday 14 October.
VUT had an easy road to finals. In the group stages VUT beat Valencia (Limpopo), Ballers (Western Cape) and KAD (Gauteng) in straight sets (3-0), but they came undone in the final group stage match against rivals TUKS in Group B.
VUT faced defending champions UKZN Women in the semi-finals, but it was not to be another fairytale ending for UKZN, as VUT raced away to 3 sets to one victory and advance to the final.

Debutantes Mpumalanga’s Beat Masters lived up to their name, as they literally did “beat” their competitors to top the table in Group A. They faced off against TUKS in the semi-final. TUKS did not make it easy for the Mpumalanga side, but with sheer determination, the newbies clinched the spot in the finals in thrilling fashion with 3 sets to 2 victory.
The final was nicely set up and each team gave it their all. Playing end to end volleyball strokes and pushing VUT to their limits, Beat Masters could not overturn the sets as VUT claimed the title of 2023 Volleyball South Africa Women’s Champs in straight sets.
