The annual Oliver and Adelaide Tambo Liberation walk will take place this Saturday, 6 October at the O.R Tambo International Airport Sports Grounds in Kempton Park.
This year’s ambassadors include gsport4girls founder Kass Naidoo, socialite and businesswoman Uyanda Mbuli and television and radio presenter Liezel Van der Westhuizen.
The aim of the walk is to commemorate the lives of Oliver and Adelaide Tambo by promoting their values and continue their legacy. The theme for this year is ‘Walk to Educate”. Proceeds will be donated towards improving the conditions of Oliver Tambo’s former primary school Ludeka Primary School in Mbizana Municipality, Eastern Cape.
Entries are open until Saturday at 7am but it is recommended that people who want to participate register by Friday. Interested people can register online at the Tambo Liberation Walk website, Information points and retail shops at O.R Tambo International Airport or on the race day at the Airport Sports Grounds.
Entrants can do the 5km (cost R50), 10km (R70) or 21 km (R80) race. Entrants will be directed to designated parking areas upon arrival at the venue.
SAMA winning kwaito outfit Big Nuz, L-Tido and The Graeme Watkins Project will entertain crowds on the day. There will also be ample activities for the kids at a cost of R10 per child and Food and refreshment stalls will be available on the grounds.
