South Africa Women’s Cricket squad got down to business in Cape Town on Thursday morning in preparation for the ICC Women’s World Cup qualifier which starts on Monday, in the Western Cape.
But the team’s preparations were hampered by the overnight rain, which forced their warm-up match against Boland to be shortened to 35 overs-a-side indoor match, at the Bridge House College in Franschhoek.
The South African Women’s squad easily won the encounter by six wickets, reaching the required target of 126 runs for victory in the penultimate over.
Though, the squad’s preparation was not what coach Noor Rhode would have preferred, it was still good enough. "We had to improvise by going indoors for two hours. We are grateful to Bridge House to afford us their facilities to spend the valuable time in the field.
"This opportunity gave us a hint of seeing the areas we still need to polish before the tournament starts," said Rhode.
The South African Women squad are currently taking on one of the Group B competitors, the Netherlands, in a second warm-up encounter.
